Playlist: Fa La La La-lidays

Y’all this week has been so busy, but in the best way!  Tuesday, I played BINGO at my local Whole Foods with my friend Brigitte.  The BINGO is free, but you have to pay for any food or booze.  img_4017

Wednesday was my birthday – the big 33; I met Mama J half-way between Georgetown (where she lives) & The Woodlands (where I live), in a cute little town called Brenham.  That’s where Bluebell Ice Cream is made!  They have a super cute historic downtown square with cafes, shops, & the works.  We had lunch at a cafe called the Funky Art Cafe.  I had a very funky club sandwich – it had grated cheddar cheese, y’all.  Tell me how this makes sense?!?!  On my way back home, I stopped in Chappell Hill at a store called True Blue Home – I love this store so much & one of my favorite designers, Holly Mathis, helped setup this shop.

Once back in The Woodlands, I had dinner with my sweet friends Amy & Maureen – they spoiled me majorly!  We went to a local staple – Republic Grille.  I had an awesome meal of  chicken with goat cheese & sun dried tomatoes with a  lemon cream sauce.   Good company, good food, & good wine!img_4028

As per usual, I dug into the mashed potatoes before taking a picture.  It was so, so good – I couldn’t wait!

Yesterday (Thursday), we had our work holiday party at Texas de Brazil in City Centre.  The Cabernet was awesome!!!  However, I cannot eat this way easily.  This is the type of place where you get your sides form a buffet, & they bring meat to you & cut your piece table side.  The food is fantastic, but it is so rushed.  I can’t eat like that.  I take my time, & graze more often than not.  Never the less, the party was fun – Ugly Sweater is always an easy theme.  The after party, at Yard House, was more casual.  I tried my first Snake Bite – so delicious!  Guinness & Angry Orchard Cider! IMG_4033.JPG

This weekend I’ll be babysitting, house, sitting, & dog sitting – with a couple brunches thrown into the mix. 🙂

Anyways – on to the real reason you’re reading this blog post, my 6th playlist of the season!  Listen here: Fa La La La-lidays

Playlist: Christmas Vacation

Happy Thanksgiving!  I hope you all are enjoying time with your loved ones & remembered to wear your stretchy pants.  Thanksgiving is all about family, green bean casserole, mulled wine, & games!  This year our Thanksgiving is a little smaller as one cousin now lives in Hawaii with her husband, & one of my other cousins is in Phoenix this year with his wife & 3 kiddos.

So, I waited as long as I could, but I have to confess that I did put up Christmas decorations.  I like to rationalize that I did it the week of Thanksgiving because I was off from work & I went out of town on Wednesday.  The truth is that I got a new tree this year from QVC that has over 60 light settings & I wanted to play with them.  🙂

Playlist: Merry & Bright

Y’all, I am am so excited merry & bright!  See what I did there?  Last weekend I went to the annual Nutcracker Market in Houston.  It is utter chaos with women shopping like mad & their men tailgating out in the parking lot until they’re needed to do the heavy lifting.  It’s a genius plan if you think about it.  This year I went on the last day, instead of the first day, & was so excited because some booths were making deals.  I’m always on the hunt for a reasonably priced Christmas tree skirt & this year I found the perfect red tartan plaid skirt at a booth called The Royal Standard.  It was 50% off, so of course I had to take a second look to determine if it was worth the discounted price – definitely worthy the $20 I paid!

Between the Nutcracker Market & the Hallmark Channel’s Christmas movies (cannot. stop. watching.), I am having such a hard time restraining myself from decorating for the holiday.  I settle for creating holiday inspired playlists instead, so without further ado – I present to you the second playlist of the season.

Playlist: Gone But Not Forgotten

Y’all I have a love for music from the 1950’s, 60’s, & 70’s. I blame Mama J for not letting me listen to heavy metal in the car.  The radio was almost always tuned to 103.5 (Austin), & I quickly fell in love with the music of yonder years.  You know, the music based on talent, musicality, & harmonies.  I was particularly fond of The Drifters, Lesley Gore, Carole King, & Connie Francis. I feel like most modern music should be ashamed of itself.  They don’t make ’em like they used to as my dad would say…

You can listen to my favorites here: Oldies But Goodies

Under The Boardwalk – The Drifters

A Teenager In Love – Dion & The Belmonts

Stupid Cupid – Connie Francis

Rockin’ Robin – The Jackson 5

Do You Believe in Magic – The Lovin’ Spoonful

Walk On By – Dionne Warwick

All Shook Up – Elvis Presley

Just My Imagination – The Temptations

Where The Boys Are – Connie Francis

Take Good Care of My Baby – Bobby Vee

You Keep Me Hangin’ On – The Supremes

I Fall to Pieces – Patsy Cline

Cathy’s Clown – The Everly Brothers

Devil or Angel – Bobby Vee

Locomotion – Carole King

I Can’t Help Myself (Sugar Pie, Honey Bun) – Four Tops

You Don’t Own Me – Lesley Gore

Surfer Girl – The Beach Boys

Breaking Up is Had to Do – Neil Sedaka

Close To You – Carpenters

Joy To the World – Three Dog Night

I Want to Hold You Hand – The Beatles

Poetry In Motion – Bobby Vee

So Far Away – Carole King

All I Have to Do is Dream – The Everly Brothers

Walk Like A Man – Frankie Valli & The Four Seasons

American Pie – Don McLean

I Want You Back – The Jackson 5

Save the Last Dance for Me – The Drifters

Band of Gold – Freda Payne

No Matter What – Badfinger

My Girl – The Temptations

You’ve Lost The Lovin’ Feelin’ – The Righteous Brothers

Up on the Roof – The Drifters

Can’t Take My Eyes Off You – Frankie Valli

Knock Three Times – Tony Orlando

Chapel of Love – Lesley Gore

This Magic Moment – The Drifters

Sugar, Sugar – The Archies

Signed, Sealed, Delivered I’m Yours – Stevie Wonder

There Goes My Baby – The Drifters

Please Mr. Postman – The Marvelettes

Will You Love Me Tomorrow – The Shirelles

Earth Angel – The Penguins

Blue Moon – The Marcels

My Guy – Mary Wells

The Shoop Shoop Song – Betty Everett

It’s My Party – Lesley Gore

Do y’all like oldies?  Did I miss anyone from this playlist?  I hope you enjoy…

Starting Friday, November 4th I will be posting a holiday playlist.  This is my favorite time of year & I almost exclusively listen to Christmas music after Halloween (yes, I know this is annoying to some).  Feel free to save my playlists until December. 🙂
