WUW: August Edition (A Week Late)

WUW

This post is a week late because of Hurricane Harvey & the Houston Flood.  Shay focused on ways to help Houston last week, which I so appreciate.

Let’s get started shall we?

What I’m eating this week…

I’m still working from home due to Harvey (our office was really damaged), so I’ve been cooking a lot, particularly soup!  Soup is basically my favorite food!!!  I get that from Mama J.  I made chicken noodle soup & a clean out the pantry/fridge vegetable meatball soup!

While I was glued to the Harvey coverage, trying to figure out if it was safe enough for me to venture out to find a Dr Pepper, I snacked on this here charcuterie board that I threw together. charcuterie

What I’m reminiscing about…

I’m reminiscing about this beautiful caramel macchiato I had yesterday at the Coffeeshop Company. Coffee

Y’all know how much I love coffee, and this cute little cafe has tasty macchiatos.

What I’m loving…

I’m loving 2 things right now.  One, this drying lotion.  Amy from the Bobby Bones Show did an Insta Story on this zit cream, her skin is flawless, so…  You apply it to any blemish on your face before you go to bed & the next morning it’s gone!  It kinda looks like Calamine lotion, which takes some getting used to.   Zit CreamTwo, at Shay’s recommendation of his pumpkin mask,  I bought this Peter Thomas Roth mask kit.  I wasn’t sure if I wanted to spend that much money on just the pumpkin mask (what if I didn’t like it?!?), so I bout travel sizes of all of his masks to try them out!PTR masks

What I’ve been up to…

I have been in the thick of it with Hurricane Harvey.  I feel like I’ve aged 100 years.  I don’t know what day it is.  You can read about my experience here.  There was so much fear, waiting for my house to get damaged, & then when it didn’t I felt guilt, shame, & helplessness because so many people lost everything.  It’s still hard to reconcile it all in my mind.

What I’m dreading…

Tomorrow, I have to take CPR re-certification class.  I don’t mind taking the class, but I have to drive to our Galleria office & it will take about 1.5 hours to get there in traffic.  😦

What I’m working on…

I am working on researching hotels, Airbnbs, & inns for my big Fall road trip!!!  I found the cutest one in Maine!  The Cove

Who wouldn’t want to stay here?  I’ll do a full trip post once we get back.

What I’m excited about…

See above.  October is fast approaching & soon Brigitte & I will be joining our friend Jessica to then join our friend Norma!  So, B & I are flying to Fayetteville, NC to pick up Jess, heading north, taking five days to get to New Hampshire.  We’ll be spending time in Washington DC, NYC, Mystic, Cape Cod (if we can squeeze it in), Boston, Salem, Kennebunkport, & finally Lincoln, NH.  If you have any ideas for must sees along the way, please share!!!  I’m pretty excited to do a Monuments by Moonlight tour in DC.  I wanted to go to the Chihuly Exhibit in NYC, but it’s in the Bronx – which I think is kinda far out.

What I’m watching/reading…

I’m still working on reading the Outlander series…the shortest book is 850 pages!

Aside from the news, I’ve been watching Bachelor In Paradise.  You guys, is it just me or is this season so BORING???  None of these fools like each other romantically, except for Taylor & Derek.  This is by far the worst casting BIP has ever done.  How Ben Z remained single, I’ll never no.  Could be that he talked about his dog Zeus too much.  It could also be that he went by Ben Z, when he was the only Ben there?

Do any of you watch Younger?  This season is so good!  #TeamCharles

What I’m listening to…

I’m currently obsessed with the podcasts: Pod Save America, Pod Save the People, & Lovett or Leave It.  Pod Save America is hosted by four former Obama aides (I have a  crush on Jon Favreau).  Pod Save the People is hosted by DeRay Mckesson & he basically discusses culture, social justice, & politics.  Lovett or Leave It is hosted by Jon Lovett, a former Obama speechwriter, joined by comedians, etc. to discuss the week’s top news.

What I’m wearing…

Y’all, I’ve literally been wearing pajamas daily for the last two weeks.  The best perk of working from home.

What am I doing this weekend…

I will be on the hunt for a new perfume.  I’ve worn With Love by Hilary Duff for the last 10 years or so, it’s not made anymore & I think I have officially bought & used every last bottle I could find.  So, although I’m devastated, I must move on.  I’m VERY particular about perfumes, so it won’t be an easy task.

What I’m looking forward to next month…

Next month is October, so duh – my trip!  Y’all this is the longest vacation I’ve ever taken.  Fall road trip

What else is new…

I hope everyone in Hurricane Irma’s path seeks safety & shelter.

I’m not going to answer the bonus question this month, as it is about school lunches & I have no children nor do I go to school.  I think variety is key.

WUW: July Edition

Well, it’s that time again…What’s Up Wednesday!  I missed June as I was crazy busy with work.  I can’t tell you how many times a fell asleep sitting straight up on my couch last month.  To be fair, I often fall asleep on my couch, but it’s not usually at 7:00p.  Such is life sometimes, #amiright. Questions

What I’m eating this week…

Okay y’all, so I’m still obsessed with salads…it’s just too hot to turn on the stove.  I’ve been loving this spicy Watermelon Feta Serrano salad from Chef Marcella Valladolid from The Kitchen.  salad

I’ve also really been into Shay’s (yes, I use her name like we’re real friends) Panzanella Salad.  Her recipe calls for goat cheese, but I use feta because I ALWAYS have feta in my fridge.

I really like making salads because usually by the time I finishing cooking hot dishes I no longer want to eat them.  I tend to taste as I go, & with all the smells, I’m just over it by the time they’re done cooking.

What I’m reminiscing about…

I’m reminiscing about days when my back didn’t feel so tight.  You know when you get a stitch in your side & it feels like your lung is stuck on a rib?  Well, I’m getting that sensation but in my upper back.  I’m going to a chiropractor today, so hopefully all will be well soon.

What I’m loving…

I’m loving the Essie & OPI gel polishes.  I recently gave myself a manicure, using OPI gel basecoat, Essie gel color, & OPI gel topcoat…y’all, it has lasted for 2 weeks so far!  That is unheard of me!!!

What I’ve been up to…

I’ve been doing a lot of babysitting, house & dog sitting.  Lexie is one of my favorite pooches. Lexie

What I’m dreading…

August is usually the hottest month of the year down here in Texas… Whah Whah.

What I’m working on…

The big project I had for work finally went live for my 200+ consultants.  There were a few hiccups, but it went much more smoothly than I thought it would!  You can’t see me, but I’m giving myself a pat on the back.  It went so well, that the proverbial “they” have given me more responsibility.

What I’m excited about…

So, I recently booked a trip, which I am soooooo excited about!!!  My friend Brigitte & I are flying to North Carolina to meet up with our friend Jessica.  Then we are going to take a few days to drive up to our friend Norma’s house in the mountains of New Hampshire for a few more days before heading home.  Any recommendations for the East Coast, please let me know!  We plan to stop in a ton of cute little coastal towns.  Road trip!

What I’m watching/reading…

I’m still watching this never ending season of The Bachelorette.  I think Rachel is the best Bachelorette we’ve ever had, but I’ve been pretty underwhelmed by the season as a whole.  ABC has done a horrific lack luster job of handling the delicate issue of race, in my opinion.  Plus, I miss Chris Harrison being more involved…I mean he’s only been the host for 100 years, so maybe he’s burnt out?

I’m about to start reading the Outlander series, per Brigitte’s recommendation.  Thanks for loaning me your 850 page book. Outlander

What I’m listening to…

I’ve been listening to Christmas music to celebrate Christmas in July!!!  You can listen to all my playlists here.  C in J

What I’m wearing…

I’m really into my new pinata tassel earrings!  Mine are in rose gold, silver, & gold, so they go with everything!Tassel 1

What I’m doing this weekend…

My only plans are to have dinner with a couple friends on Saturday.  And, possibly going to a friend’s brunch for her new business.

What I’m looking forward to next month…

So far, I don’t have anything planned for August…

What else is new…

Any curling iron recommendations?  Mine is dying a slow death, & I just can’t get the hang of wands.  I have so. much. hair.  this translates to me having no patience for wands.

Bonus: What’s my favorite thing about summer…

To be honest, I hate summer.  The heat – yuck.  The humidity – yuck & a half.summerI’m a cold weather person, which is easy to say being from Texas – I don’t truly know what cold is…blah, blah, blah.  I love winter holidays, my birthday is in December, I’m very fair skinned, so it just makes sense that I’m a winter person.

That being said, I do love “firework holidays.”  The Fourth of July is basically the only time I go outside in the summer that doesn’t involve a pool, air condition, or a cold adult beverage.  This year we played bingo at Whole Foods (it was a Tuesday after all) & watched the fireworks from the parking lot as they were across the street at Northshore Park.  Unfortunately, WF decided to have bingo outside, which was miserably hot; y’all, I got so desperate that I put ice down my shirt.  Fortunately for us, most people were too smart to play outside in the heat, so our group won most of the games!

How was July for you guys?  Anything fun planned for August?

Until the next WUW…

What’s Up Wednesday: May Edition

It’s that time again…time for a quick catch up with me!  WUW WUW Questions

What I’m eating this week…

When the weather gets warmer, I CRAVE salads; in my family we call it “Salad Art.”  I’ve been consistently making “clean out the fridge/pantry” chicken salad.

My current favorite recipe is:
1 8-12 oz. can of chicken breast – drained (I know this sounds gross, but I like the texture of canned chicken)
1-2 celery stalks – diced
1/2 of a purple onion – diced (it adds a nice spiciness)
1 small honeycrisp apple – diced
1 handful of dried cranberries (or cherries) – I like to chop them a little smaller
1 handful of slivered almonds (I like honey roasted)
1 handful of sunflower seed
2 spoonfuls of Miracle Whip, mayo, or Greek yogurt
Mix it all together & enjoy!  I go easy on the Miracle Whip because I’m not the biggest mayo (of any kind) fan…that’s a story for another day.

I’ve been known to switch up these ingredients a lot!  Mama J likes diced pineapple in her chicken salad & pecans.  I’ve done cashews, poppy seeds, Caesar dressing, cilantro, grapes, leftover slaw from Zoe’s Kitchen…you name it, I’ve put it in a chicken salad.

What I’m reminiscing about…

Memorial Day weekend was awesome.  I had Friday & Monday off from work.  I didn’t go anywhere, but…  I didn’t where makeup for 4 days.  I stayed in my pajamas pretty much the whole time.  I watch Hallmark movies & cleaned off my DVR.  I took a nap or two everyday.  I read a couple books.  It was awesome. lazy bones

What I’m loving…

I am absolutely loving Rachel Lindsay as the Bachelorette!  She’s classy, sassy, assertive, funny, & beautiful!  She doesn’t have time for the guys’ shenanigans & doesn’t let them get away with anything. Rachel

You can read my recaps here.

What I’ve been up to…

I feel like all I do is work!  However, I’ve been flexing my green thumb.  I have a HUGE (17′ x 26′) flowerbed on the front of my house, & it is the only spot in my entire yard that gets sunlight.  So, I cut the old, dying plants/weeds down to their stumps, then pulled up all the roots (Wow, was that work!), & I recently planted Red Yuccas, Crate Myrtle shrubs, Lantana, Mexican Heather, a nectarine tree, & a Sago Palm.

Before

Before…

Stumps

Stumps…

No roots

Roots have been pulled & stumps are gone!

red yuccas

Red Yuccas!

I haven’t taken a final picture yet because I need to add more mulch…’cause you know the 12 bags I used wasn’t even close to enough.  #gardeningproblems

What I’m dreading…

Let’s have some real talk, shall we?  By night, I blog & recap my shows.  By day, I’m a project manager in the Energy Sector here in Houston; I’m basically responsible for roughly 200 consultants.  Our company is in the process of switching our accounting system, which I think is a fantastic move.  However, I’m not getting all the information up front & I’m getting mostly trained on parts of the system that I don’t need/won’t have access to.  We are supposed to go live this week (it’s Wednesday!), & not only do I have to know how to use it for myself, but I have to explain it to 200 other people.  I’m dreading this because I’m anticipating the chaos.  I clearly have control issues…

What I’m working on…

This is going to sound weird, but my New Year’s Resolution was to take better care of my skin.  So, not only is Sunday my hair washing day, it is also my beauty pampering day.  I usually do a face mask, foot mask, & hand treatment of some kind.  This past Sunday I did a foot mask that causes your feet to peel 3-5 days later…well, my feet are peeling!  So, I’m working on peeling the layers of dead skin off my feet, & what’s underneath is smooth as a baby’s butt.  The smoothness lasts for a few months!  I know, I know…it’s kinda gross.

What I’m excited about…

I’m excited about a trip I hope to take with a few friends in the fall.  It will be a road trip from Charleston to New Hampshire & back!  I’ve never been to the East Coast – I always tend to go West, so I’m super excited to see the changing leaves.  I want to go apple picking, get drunk on syrup, & go on a moose tour!

What I’m watching & reading…

Watching: Southern Charm!  I love it!!!  You can read all my recaps here.

Reading: Y’all know I love my cheesy romance novels; I finished one over the weekend & am half way through another one.  Novels

What I’m listening to…

I’ve been listening to all The Bachelorette Recaps!  My favorites are from: The Popcast, Here to Make Friends, & Will You Accept This Rose.

What I’m wearing…

I’m living in my flip flops!  Also linen pants are my favs to wear to the office in the summer months…they’re casual, but I can get away with them since they aren’t jeans.

What I’m doing this weekend…

I’ll probably run the errands I put off over Memorial day weekend.  I’ll be getting more mulch, obviously.  I lead an exciting life.  I’ll probably head to the farmer’s market if the weather is nice…I think it’s supposed to rain.

What I’m looking forward to next month…

I plan to take a stay-cation in June.  I’ll be house sitting & dog sitting Lexie for two weeks & the house has a pool!  Yes, please!pool

What else is new…

I’m curious to know if any of you have any auto immune issues?  I feel like I do, but I know they take time to diagnose.  In the last month, my finger tips (the pads of my fingers) have peeled twice.  A friend of mine said that is a symptom of thyroid issues, which is the immune issue I think I have.  I alluded to my health a few WUW posts ago, & have since kind of given up on a diagnosis.  My GP told me I was fat (yes, I know I’m overweight); an Internist, having only met me once, told me I was crazy.  I ventured out on my own to an Endocrinologist who said I don’t have thyroid issues yet, but I will – whatever that means. Are any of y’all going through something similar?

Bonus: What’s my favorite vacation spot…

I have to say, one of the best vacations I’ve ever been on was to Isla Mujeres, Mexico, which is a 30 minute ferry ride from Cancun.  It is a little 6 mile long island.  Most people walk, drive mopeds, or golf carts.  I went there to babysit, & it was the most relaxing vacation I’ve ever been on.  Thank you Maureen & Amy!  We stayed in a house, & it was literally house -> pool -> road -> beach.  So dreamy!

WUW: March Edition

It’s that time of the month again…What’s Up Wednesday!  This is just a quick glimpse into my life; it’s a quick read, so I hope you enjoy!  wuw

The questions are: wuw-questions

What I’m eating this week…

This time of year I become obsessed with salads.  My favorite is my cucumber salad.  Cucumber Salad

Okay, so the staples in this salad are:
Cucumber – sliced & quartered
Cherry Tomatoes – halved
Feta Cheese – crumbled
Ranch dressing – I like Ken’s Lite dressing
Balsamic Vinaigrette dressing – I LOVE Ken’s Lite dressing
I use 2 parts Ranch to 1 part Balsamic Vinaigrette.
Additional Add-Ins:
Green Grapes – halved
Watermelon – Cubed
Toss together & enjoy!
I eyeball all of the proportions in this salad until it makes beautiful “salad art”!  In my world, all beautiful salads are called salad art!  My friend Lindsay started this phenomenon when we were in Palm Springs a decade or so ago.

What I’m reminiscing about…

No having mentioned Palm Springs…I’m dreaming of lazy days by the pool, drinking a pitcher of margarita, & playing Spite & Malice for hours.  Ah, those were the days.

What I’m loving…

Okay, so I finally broke down & started shaving my face.  It has changed my life!  My skin is soooo soft now; I also use less makeup because it goes on so much smoother.  I like these razors.  Be careful around your eyebrows…

What I’ve been up to…

Work (my real day job) has been crazy, CRAZY busy the last few weeks.  Literally, crazy until this last Monday – it has calmed considerably since some changes have been made – for the better I think.

What I’m dreading…

Luckily, I’m not dreading anything at the moment. 🙂

What I’m working on…

I am spring cleaning & purging my house right now! Spring Cleaning 1

What I’m excited about…

Y’all, I am finally getting a ceiling fan installed in my bedroom!  I’m so excited by this I can’t even adequately express my feelings about this.

What I’m watching/reading…

I’ve been mostly trying to clean off my DVR – I need to catch up on Feud, Scandal, & The Mindy Project.  I’ve been obsessed with The Kitchen lately…partially because I adore Katie Lee.  But, I am SUPER excited for #SouthernCharm & #RHONY to come back.  Check out my SC Cast Analysis here, & I’ll be posting the RHONY Cast Analysis later this week.

I’m totally loving the The Boeskool Blog lately.  He spot on every time, & so well written.  theboeskool.com

What I’m listening to…

I’ve started listening to a few new podcasts:
RESIST Podcast
The Pretty Mean Podcast – I respond to their conversations in the car.
See Something Say Something

What I’m wearing…

Now that it’s officially Spring, I am pulling the maxi dresses back out to play. 🙂  I love maxi dresses, they are basically yoga pants that you can wear to the office.  Spring Staple

I live in outfits similar to this.

What I’m doing this weekend…

Friday: ceiling fan installation & spring cleaning, & purging my closet
Saturday: planting new succulents & fuchsias in my vertical garden
Sunday: brunch with Brigitte, hair washing day, & prepping for the week

What I’m looking forward to next month…

The last weekend in April is the Red Poppy Festival in Georgetown.  I look forward to going to this every year.  Despite Georgetown growing from 30,000 people (when I lived there) to 80,000 now – it still has maintained its small town charm.  Poppy Fest

What else is new…

I’m contemplating a girl’s trip to Belize this summer, but I also kind of want to just go somewhere on my own.  We’ll see how that plays out.  Any suggestions?

Bonus Question: What is my favorite Spring wardrobe piece?

Flip flops are my favorite warm weather staple!!!!  I love flip flops so much that Mama J had to implement a no flip-flop rule if it was less than 50° outside when I was in high school.  These are my favorite of all time. Ecote

What’s Up Wednesday: February Edition

It’s that time again…our monthly check-in with an edition of What’s Up Wednesday!  Once again, this post will be linked to the Mix & Match Mama, so check out her blog too!wuw

I’ll be answering these questions.wuw-questions

What I’m eating this week…

I’ve trying some new healthy recipes lately…trying to be good.  I’ve made Katrina Bowden’s overnight oats (trying to force myself into liking oatmeal) & her sweet & sour chicken, which is to die for.  I also made Shay’s Mozzarella bake, which I think I’ll make spicier next time.  I love the Chobani flips yogurt, but can’t find my favorite peachy pistachio anymore, so I made my own version.

But, then Girl Scout Cookies happened.  girl-scout-cookies

What I’m reminiscing about…

Not to bring the mood down, but February 16th was the ninth anniversary of my Dad’s death.  It was unexpected, but we did have about 3 days notice.  We buried him on the 18th, which was my parents 25th wedding anniversary.  It was a double whammy for Mama J.  This picture was our last picture together, taken on Christmas Day 2007. dad

What I’m loving…

I’m loving my new hair color & cut!  Thanks to Christina, co-owner of The Beauty Lounge in The Woodlands.  My hair is so thick she & another stylist had to blow it out…talk about being pampered.  I suggested that perhaps I need to get one of those cat brushes that grooms their fur…we laughed for days.  I still think that could work.new-brush

What I’ve been up to…

As per usual, I play BINGO on Tuesdays.  Last night I finally won!  I was so excited!!!  Mike’s hearing is still recovering. bingo-i-won

Little did I know, this would be my winning round.  I won a $5 gift card, which paid for my beer.  Double win!

What I’m dreading…

I’m dreading Lent.  I’m not Catholic, but I like to participate in Lent because I feel it works better for me to give something up, rather than resolving to do something in the new year.  I’ve decided to give up restaurants (I use this term loosely) with a drive-thru.  If I cheat, I have to put that same amount of money in my savings account.  I’m trying break bad habits y’all…

What I’m working on…

I am weaning myself off cokes.  Yes, in Texas all carbonated drinks are called cokes.  I’ve switched exclusively to diet drinks, & allow myself to only have one…then I switch to water.  What can I say…I’m a work-in-progress.

What I’m excited about…

I just got a little trampoline, so I’m super excited to start doing workouts on it…just need to assemble it.trampoline.gif

What I’m watching/reading…

I’ve really been missing The Mindy Project (used to be on Fox, now on Hulu), so I downloaded Hulu & have started over on Season 1.  I forgot how much I love this show!  Also the show follow me on Twitter, so I feel like that is divine intervention or something.tmp

As for reading…I’m currently ready a cheesy romance novel; I’m trying to finish it quickly because it’s too cheesy even for me.

What I’m listening to…

I’ve recently turned back to music for a little bit; I was exclusively podcasting for a few months.  The Sing soundtrack is so fun, & I’ve been reacquainted with Lady Gaga thanks to the Superbowl.

I’ve added a few new podcasts into the mix as well: My Favorite Murder, The Business Bites Podcast, See Something Say Something, Presidential, Side Hustle School, & Dumb, Gay Politics…just to name a few.

What I’m wearing…

Well, since we had 90° weather last week for a couple days, I’m pulling out my warm weather clothes.  Total bummer for me because I LOVE winter.

Back in January I got glasses for the first time.  Lame.  I only need to wear them for screen time, but I am having such a hard time getting used to them.  I’m not sure if the prescription is too strong or if I just don’t wear them enough, but they make me kind of dizzy if I look at anything other than a computer screen…forget trying to walk around – my environment becomes a carnival fun house.  glasses

What I’m doing this weekend…

This weekend I will be babysitting, possibly dog sitting, & I plan to have brunch with my friend Rebecca.  We tend to brunch hop…yea!

What I’m looking forward to next month…

Next month is Spring Break, so I typically avoid travel during that time as I have no kiddos.  However, I will be dog sitting for two of my favorite families, so I’ll have a staycation & enjoy the pool.

What else is new…

Not a lot new this month.  I am now on version 7.0 of drawing out my dream house for when I win the lotto.  I enjoyed a fun Wine Night at a friend’s new house last week.  My friend Brigitte & I went out for Happy Hour, which other than BINGO we rarely do.  This was a precursor to seeing Fifty Sades Darker.  Normally I don’t notice directors, but I thought it was super obvious that this one had a different director than the first movie & it didn’t follow the book as closely, but Christian Grey is still hot AF.

Bonus Question: What is my “can’t live without” beauty product…

Straight out of the shower, I use a leave-in conditioner. I like this leave-in conditioner. You can get it on amazon, at Target, HEB, pretty much anywhere.  It smells like a vacation. Make sure to use a wide tooth comb to evenly distribute throughout your hair.

Until next month…

What’s Up Wednesday: January Edition

wuw

Alright y’all, it’s that time again…What’s Up Wednesday is back!  I feel like it’s been ages since I’ve done one of these!  So, as a quick reminder, this is a linked blog with Mix & Match Mama.

Here is the list of questions I’ll be answering: wuw-questions

What I’m eating this week…

I’m having a weird week food wise.  I might have previously alluded to some mystery symptoms, which I still have & are still a mystery…  But, one of the symptoms is that I have little to no appetite & food tastes off.  I’m going through a particularly strong phase of this at the moment, so I aimlessly graze throughout the day trying to find something that satisfies.  You’d think it would be a great diet…

However, last Sunday I did make these awesome Spicy Butternut Squash Empanadas.  They were pretty fantastic if I do say so myself.

What I’m reminiscing about…

So, a little further down I wrote about our new office move.  Without spoiling that, I am reminiscing about my 20 minute drive (yes, in traffic).  Oddly enough, the new location is pretty much equal distance from my house as the last office was, but the time has tripled.  Now don’t get me wrong, sometimes I like getting stuck in traffic – there are days when being in the car is the only alone time I get.  But, my new drive is either slow (think 2 lane country road) or incredibly expensive on the toll road (about $7 one-way!).  I’m looking into alternate routes, & I think I found one this morning. shorter-drive

What I’m loving…

I’m really loving the #31mornings Challenge from Camille Styles.  You basically receive an email each morning with a recipe for a nutritious breakfast, an inspirational quote, a yoga pose, & fun little surprise suggestion.  This has been a great way to start out the new year, focusing on the positive & moving forward (mind & body).

What I’ve been up to…

Y’all, I have been playing BINGO every Tuesday, for the last 2 months, at the Whole Foods bar.  birthday-bingo

It has been so fun!  I go with my friend Brigitte (Bri-gee-tah) every week; sometimes other friends join us, but we have also met a lot of new people.

I’ve only won once, but I always have fun!

What I’m Dreading…

Going to the dentist.  dentist

I have a deep rooted dislike of the dentist – ALL dentists.  Why would anyone want to stick their hand in someone’s mouth all day???

Anyway, I recently had a permanent crown put on, & it was an. ordeal.  The temporary crown refused to come off quietly & without out numbing.  Unfortunately, my permanent crown needs to be adjusted because two weeks later I’m still having some sensitivity.  😦

What I’m working on…

Our office just moved, so I’ve been setting up my new office.  I’ve gone from a nice, roomy office with windows, to a cube.  Trying to get used to all the noise is a big adjustment, but I am settling in well.  50696041572__906ef80f-9041-4035-8319-5d696f42357a

What I’m excited about…

I’m so excited that Grey’s Anatomy (yes, I still watch) & Scandal come back tomorrow!

What I’m watching/reading…

This past month I’ve watched the final episodes of Girl Meets World.  Sad face.gmw

Yes, I am a 33yo woman, but I babysit all the time.  This was one of the few, quality shows that I didn’t mind watching with the kiddos.  I liked this one better than the original Boy Meets World, & I am so sad that it got cancelled.  If you only watch one episode, watch the one on bullying – so good!

I’ve taken a reading break lately…been listening to a LOT of podcasts.  Do y’all have any recommendations?

What I’m listening to…

I am OBSESSED with the Popcast’s Bachelor recaps!  I listen through Patreon & they are hilarious!  I will warn you, you’ll need to become a “Friend of the Show” to get these recaps.  popcast

What I’m wearing…

As usual, I’m wearing my striped sweater, but I basically live in these booties from Zulily.

I loved them so much, that next time they came around I bought them in black.

What I’m doing this weekend…

Y’all, this weekend I will be taking down my Christmas decorations.  I decided a while ago that I was going to leave my festive decor up until the Chinese New Year, which is this Saturday!  So down it comes.  Don’t tell anyone, but even I (a MAJOR Christmas lover) am a bit tired of my tree.

What I’m looking forward to next month…

I have to confess, I don’t love February.  Nine years ago, February 16, 2008 my father unexpectedly passed away.  In that moment I became a “real” adult.

On a side note, I’m getting my hair done on the 3rd, so I do look forward to getting rid of my grey roots! hair

What else is new…

I plan to give up all places with a drive-thru for Lent.  I should save a lot of money & lose some weight!

Bonus Question: Who’s your favorite Bachelor & Bachelorette of all time?

This is so easy for me!  Andrew Firestone is hands down the GOAT Bachelor!  Plus, I think he is so good looking…and his family owns a vineyard, duh.

My favorite Bachelorette is Jillian, but I also really liked Kaitlyn’s season.  Jilly had great fashion, & she really has branded herself perfectly since being on the franchise.  Respect.

Don’t forget to comment with anything, but especially book recommendations.  I’ll read anything.  Until next time…

What’s Up Wednesday: November Edition

wuw

It’s that time again…What’s Up Wednesday Link Up!  I just got to Mama J’s house in Georgetown for all the Thanksgiving festivities.

questions

What I’m eating this week…

I don’t know about y’all, but Thanksgiving is my favorite food holiday.  I really only like this food at this time of year, but for me it is ALL about the sides.  Green bean casserole is my go to, but I save a little room for dressing, & other sides. gbc

What I’m reminiscing about…

My dad passed away in 2008, this time of year always makes me miss him more than the usual.

What I’m loving…

I am LOVING the Kacey Musgraves Christmas album. km

What I’ve been up to…

I took this week off from work as I knew I’d be doing a lot of traveling over the holidays.  It was nice to get a few days to myself (I need this to survive).  I’ve also been dog sitting for the Party Bus Crew.  Last night, I accidentally sneezed on a 14 yo arthritic dog – she got up & moved to the other side of the couch…gave me the cold shoulder.

What I’m dreading…

I always dread the cleaning up after Thanksgiving.

What I’m working on…

I am working on a new beauty routine for 2017.  I’ll be 33 in December, so it’s WAY overdue for me to start taking better care of my face.  I’m going to be trying some home recipes involving baking soda.

What I’m excited about…

I am so, so, so, SOOOOO excited for the Gilmore Girls revival!  November 25th!!!  I realize I am the last person on earth without Netflix, but I subscribed just for GG!  Copper Boom!!! gg

What I’m watching/reading…

I’m watching ALL the Hallmark Christmas movies.  Looks like I’ll need to add in the UP & Lifetime Christmas movies starting next week.

I’m about to start reading Andy Cohen’s new book, Superficial.  I also want to read Lauren Graham’s book that should be coming out next week if not already out.

What I’m listening to…

I’m listening to Christmas music most of the time with the occasional podcast thrown in.  Just heard about Congressional Dish, the host – Jen Briney, deep dives into the inter-workings of Congress.  You can listen to all my Christmas Playlists here.

What I’m wearing…

I’m really digging all the plaid!  Plaid everything!!!

What I’m doing this weekend…

Thursday will be spent in San Antonio with my mom’s family.  This weekend will be spent going to Georgetown’s Lighting of the Square on Friday night.  Saturday will be spent celebrating Mama J’s birthday; Sunday will be driving back to Houston & finishing up my Christmas decorations.

What I’m looking forward to next month…

December is my favorite month!  Obviously Christmas, but my birthday is also on the 14th!

What else is new…

I just discovered a street in The Woodlands that goes all out with Christmas decorations!  I can’t wait to see it all up!lights

I sincerely hope you all have a safe & happy Thanksgiving.

WUW: Stranded With…

Hey y’all,

A couple weeks ago I did a What’s Up Wednesday post with a bunch of other bloggers through Mix & Match Mama.  Well, every Wednesday she does a Stranded With… linkup as well.  After the chaos of the last few months, I decided I need a little lightheartedness.

stramded-with

This week’s topics is what 3 types of outerwear would you take?

To be honest, I’d prefer to go to a cold island than a hot one. So, with that in mind…

First Item: my blanket sweater.  It could could do double duty – blanket & sweater!  I love multi-tasking. 🙂 img_3832

I know I talk about this sweater a lot, but it is the best!  I wear it at least 4 days a week at the office.  Here’s a picture of one the VP’s wearing it around the office.  PS – that is not my office in the picture. snuggie

Second Item: a baseball cap…particularly this one.  cap

I got this hat from Possessionista.com & it is a weekend staple for me.  If you love The Bachelor, then you’ll love Dana’s website for her Bachelor recaps with outfit posts.

Third Item: a pair of TOMS.  I mean, can you ever go wrong with a pair of TOMS? toms

These babies are on my birthday/Christmas list.  Hint, hint.

Not sure all of these items are technically considered outerwear, but I consider them to be outerwear. 🙂

See you next Wednesday!

What’s Up Wednesday: October Edition

wuw

Okay y’all, I’m trying something new here.  My friend Heather, checkout her blog New York Roots to Southern Boots, suggested I try What’s Up Wednesday from Mix & match Mama‘s blog (yes, Shay Shull is Sean Lowe’s sister).  So, I will answer the questions below & link back to Mix & Match Mama.  Here goes nothing…questions

What I’m eating this week…
I’m currently eating fried okra & a roll from Luby’s (thank you Ruthy & Katy!) & Mama J’s Chicken & Rice Soup.  This was my first attempt to make this soup as her recipe calls for a little of this & a little of that.  I also have tried out my first few recipes from Blue Apron; they are delicious but so much food!  They need a plan for single gals like me.

What I’m reminiscing about…
Lately, I’ve had the travel bug.  The last vacation I took was 2 1/2 years ago to Sonoma Wine Country…what I wouldn’t give to be back there!sonoma

Don’t I look right at home among the barrels of vino?!?

What I’m loving…
I am loving the song Big Girls Cry by Sia right now.  I’ve been listening to is on repeat trying to learn the lyrics.

What I’ve been up to…
This may be a bit too “Real Housewives” for you, but I’ve been trying to get a diagnosis for some weird symptoms, that when combined may or may not be symptoms of anything.  It’s been a real struggle to get my doctor & a few specialists to take me seriously.  I’m not one to manifest pain, symptoms, or discomfort – it took me six months to convince myself to go to the doctor.  Right now, the doctors are making me feel like I’m crazy, but I know that sleeping 15+ hours a day is not normal among other things.  At this point I’m ready for a full body scan…  Just as a side note, if you know something isn’t right with you, keep going to different doctors until you get an answer.

What I’m dreading…
I’m dreading the dentist.  Y’all, I have a deep seeded hatred for the dentist…all dentists.  It’s nothing against them as individuals.  They always find something wrong.  They ALWAYS ask opened ended questions while their hands are in my mouth.  Um, I can’t talk dude, your hand is blocking my airway.  As someone who has had numerous cavities, braces 4 times, & jaw surgery – I think it’s safe to say that I’m not looking forward to my upcoming teeth cleaning.

What I’m working on…
I am currently working on revamping the blog.  Is there anything in particular you want to see more of?

What I’m excited about…
Kathryn Dennis is coming back to #SouthernCharm for Season 4!  She’s Back!!!!  I, for one, am super excited about seeing Kathryn & her June Carter pouf back on my TV.  I adore Kathryn & think Thomas is a liar, liar, on fire.  Blandon ought to be scared… kd

What I’m watching/reading…
I’m watching This Is Us…so good!  It totally replaces Parenthood for me. this-is-us

As for what I’m reading right now…you caught me at a bad time.  I am an avid reader, & will read just about anything.  I’m currently reading a cheesy romance novel that I don’t even know the name of…don’t judge me too harshly. 🙂

What I’m listening to…
Last week, on the Popcast with Know & Jamie, Jamie greenlit the band Johnnyswim.  I’d never head of them, but she compared them to The Civil Wars (RIP).  I immediately looked them up on Spotify & have been listening ever since.  johnnyswim

What I’m wearing…
My office is a frozen tundra, so I’m wearing a cute shift dress with black tights & brown riding boots (yes, I think brown & black can be worn together).  I’m also covered head to toe (huddled really) in the most amazing $7 purchase I’ve ever made…my infamous sweater blanket as it’s called around the office.  Some of my colleagues have lovingly mockingly referred to as the Aztec Snuggie or my papoose, joke’s on them thought because I’m warm & they’re not.img_3832

What I’m doing this weekend…
I will be attending a wedding in Louisiana to help out my friends Ashley & Chisum; I’ll be watching their four daughters under the age of 8 (yes, you read that correctly).  Ashley’s niece is marrying into the Duck Dynasty family…how cool is that?

What I’m looking forward to next month…
I’m looking forward to so many things…

  • Nutcracker Market!!!
  • cold weather (God willing)
  • Greenbean casserole
  • Mama J’s birthday

What else is new…
Notta lotta…

This was so fun!  What a great way to slow down for a bit & take stock of all the cool things going on in life.

Until the last Wednesday on November…
