Friday Five: I’m not an Oompa Loompa

Hi friends!  I don’t know about where you live, but it is already HOT in Texas!  I feel like I’m getting sunburned as soon as I step outside – it’s too soon for this. 😦 Can I quarantine at the North Pole for the summer?

Anyways, on to my favorite things from the week…aside from my garden of course!

One: A very un-Casey DIY

A few weeks ago I told y’all to follow @philip_or_flop on Instagram.  He does DIY projects, on the weekends, around his home to customize his builder grade house.  Many of his projects are like ASMR to me, I could watch him power wash stuff all day.

A couple weekends ago he used 45% strength vinegar (really strong) to kill some grass that had creeped into his flower beds.  Earlier this week I tried it myself.  Y’all, my grass & weeds died within a couple hours!  Now I plan to till up the weeds, put soil down, plant a tree, & mulch the rest of the bed.

I’m debating between a redbud tree & a Bradford pear.  Both flower & have pretty color in the fall, but the redbud is smaller.  I’m leaning towards the redbud because I can plant it within 8 feet of my house.  Any tree recommendations for the Houston, TX area? IMG_2034

Two: Olive & June’s summer colors!

I’m ordering at least 3 of these.

Three: Maren Devine

I have a new artist I’m obsessed with – Maren Devine.  I’m debating which will be my next art piece.

I’m debating on these three pieces:

Four: Self Tanner

Because of @things.i.bought.and.liked, I have finally found a self tanner that does not make my super fair skin look like an Oompa Loompa.

Tan-Luxe The Gradual is awesome!  It does not have a strong smell, & the lotion is very thin & runny so you can move it around a lot before it fully soaks in.  I haven’t had any issues with it staining clothes or furniture.

Five: Salads

We are getting to that time of year where all I want is salad.  It’s cold & crunchy & I can’t get enough.  I made a random salad the other day that turned out delicious.

Here’s what I made: arugula & Swiss chard from my garden, romaine leftover in my fridge, cherry tomatoes, cucumbers, red onion, radishes, couscous, feta cheese, topped with baked falafel, & a lemon vinaigrette.  So so good!

Friday Five: Live from Snack Time

Hi friends!  Thankfully March is over with!  Didn’t it feel like March had 11, 374, 922 days?  This week has been a doosy, but let’s get into the good things from this week.

One: Tiger King

Okay, like anyone else all I can talk about is Tiger King.  Y’all, this show is so bad, so so bad.  It’s wild! 2E5B6AB3-27FD-4E8F-AB44-8A02888DD7F2

Here is my recap of each episode:

A few lingering thoughts…  I’m absolutely terrified of Doc Antle.  Joe, Doc, & Carole were are three cults leaders.  Also, Carole was no better than Joe, in terms of wanting big cats, she was just “smart enough” to call it a sanctuary instead of a zoo.

Two: Pandemic Pants

I was influenced by Becca Freeman to get Pandemic Pants from Old Navy.04992437-29F9-48F4-8F1F-CFE315EF536EI’m not sure if mine are the exact same as hers, but they a mighty comfy.  Definitely not flattering, but did I mention they were C O M F O R T A B L E.

Three: The Shop Forward

Y’all, I got these new t-shirts that go perfectly with my pandemic pants…pandemic tees?

Not only are they super soft, but all the proceeds go to charity.  You can get them here.

Four: Zucchini Pizza

Ashley Spivey has a recipe highlight saved on her Instagram with several versions of zucchini pizzas or “boats.”  I made a classic pepperoni pizza.  This recipe could not be easier, and I really like that you can make this one zucchini at a time if you’re cooking for one & can change up your toppings.

Recipe:

Preheat oven to 400 degrees.
Zucchini (I suggest one per person)

  • Rinse & dry your veggies
  • Slice zucchini length wise
  • Scoop out some of the fleshy part to create a trench
  • Season to taste with salt, pepper, Italian seasoning, garlic powder, & olive oil
  • Roast in the oven for 15 – 20 minutes
  • Pull out of the oven, & fill the trenches with pizza sauce (or marinara sauce)
  • Top with mozzarella (or cheese of your choice)
  • Then layer with pepperoni (or your favorite pizza toppings)
  • Pop back in the oven for another 10 minutes or so to melt the cheese
  • Enjoy!
