Friday Five: A Daisy or Two

E69E6C8C-FE02-48C9-9B30-10EAA1E1DDBF_4_5005_cHey y’all!  Hope you have survived another week of Social Distancing.  I’ve been trying recall if I’m on week 2 or week 3 of quarantine.  I think the first week was unofficial…

Anyway, I have five fun things, saving my sanity, to share with you for the week!

One: Quarantunes

Y’all, my playlist for the quarantine is so good!  If you are wanting 4+ hours of music to fill the silence, take a listen here.  I have a good mix of upbeat, mellow, new-ish, oldies.

Two: Fresh Flowers

So, the least practical thing I bought for my quarantine was fresh flowers.IMG_1543Even I am shaking my head at this.  I’m an Enneagram 1 (wing 9), but in times of stress E1’s go to Enneagram 4.  There is a lot of staring out the window, which normally would be very unlike me.

I do take a very quick daily sanity walk to my mailbox everyday, but if you follow me on IG then you know I have two really ugly ducks that have taken up residence in my front yard.  I’m terrified of birds (long story), and I feel like they are holding me hostage.IMG_1542Anyway, the fresh flowers are allowing me to be with nature, but not in nature.  Just how I like it.

Three: Obé Fitness

I’ve finally gotten so stir crazy that I’ve started using Obé Fitness, an at home workout app.  There is a free 7 day trial, & you can use code Ashley30 for 30% off your first month.  This is Ashley Spivey’s discount code for her followers, but I’m one of them so I’m sharing the love!

I started with a 10 minute arm workout, which I only did half of.  Y’all, I did not pick a beginner sesh.  As soon as the instructor went to planks I tapped out.  I’m just not at a place in my life where I’m ready to plank for 3.5 minutes…or at all.  Ever.

I do really like that you can select workouts from 10 minutes to an hour, you can target certain areas, and they have dance & yoga.  Think I’ll try dance cardio next, sounds fun!

Four: Staying above the Wellness Line

In the midst of all the Coronavirus stuff going on, I’m doing some extra things to stay above the wellness line.  To be fair, if anyone is already sick then medicine is obviously the way to go to get back to health.

Here are some things I’m doing:

  1. Diffusing Thieves essential oil in every room in my house while I’m in that room.  Thieves is excellent for your immune system.  Side bonus – Thieves + Lemon helps fight my allergies as the pollen is thick around here.D581DC2D-276F-4E17-BA38-ADD1DC3CCCD4
  2. Drinking at least 2 ounces of NingXia Red for added antioxidants.BFE51B72-2D55-4560-8578-34F3A49C46DB
  3. Vitamin C – all day, every day.
  4. CBD muscle rub; I have chronic neck and shoulder issues & frequent the chiropractor.  Well, I can’t do that right now, so I use CBD muscle rub to help release my neck.
  5. If things get especially stressful, I use my CBD calm &/or soothe roller.
  6. All. The. Face. Masks.  This is more of staying above the mental wellness line.

Full disclosure, items 1 – 5 are all from Young Living Essential Oils.

Five: Jessica Yellin

If you are not following @JessicaYellin on Instagram you should be.  Jessica brings her followers up-to-date, neutral information.  I often get info from her 2 – 3 days before it makes it to mainstream media.  Her signature format is #newsnotnoise.

Hope you all are well.

What’s Up Wednesday: December Edition

WUWYou guys, I’m so excited because I’m finally at my computer for a WUW!  The last two months I haven’t been near a computer (yea!) during WUW weeks.

So without further ado, I’ll be answering the following questions.  Questions

What I’m eating this week…

Oh my goodness!  I’ve been eating all the treats!  My birthday was on the 14th, so I’ve been eating sweets to celebrate. 🙂

I made some Christmas Crunch, which is a childhood recipe from my BFF’s mom (and promptly forgot to take a picture before it was gone).

Christmas Crunch:
3 Cups of Cap’n Crunch cereal
2 Cups of unsalted peanuts
2 Cups of Pretzel sticks (broken in half)
1 Pkg. of Almond Bark or White Chocolate
Red Hots are optional (Mama J added this to the recipe)
Mix dry ingredients.  Melt Almond Bark & pour over dry ingredients & mix well.  Spoon onto wax paper & let set until hard.  If you choose to add Red Hots, sprinkle them on top while the mixture is still wet.

What I’m reminiscing about…

Our work Holiday party was last week & the theme was Ugly Sweater.  I’m so proud of mine!  I made it from a plain, black sweatshirt, although I did not win the contest.  Y’all, I learned how to sew buttons; it lit up too!Ugly Sweater

What I’m loving…

I’m loving this season of Vanderpump Rules…it’s so bad, but so good!  VPR

What I’ve been up to…

I have been so busy this holiday season that I don’t feel like I’ve really gotten to enjoy it.  I’ve been extremely busy working, babysitting, traveling to & from my cousin’s wedding & associated events, birthday festivities, etc.  Here, there, & everywhere!

What I’m dreading…

I’m dreading taking down my Christmas decorations, but mostly because I’m lazy.

What I’m watching & reading…

I’m watching all Hallmark all the time, plus a little Bravo here & there.  Hallmark

I’m currently reading The Hot Shot by Kristen Callihan, so far so good.  You know I love my romance novels! The Hot SHot

What I’m listening to…

I’m listening to a mixture of Christmas music, checkout my playlists.

Holly Jolly Holiday

Merry & Bright

Christmas Vacation

Bells Are Ringing

Snow Globe Season

Fa La La La-lidays

Warm & Cozy

Under the Mistletoe

Also, I’m obsessed with all the Crooked Media podcasts!

What I’m wearing…

I just ordered these super cute, super soft sweaters.  I love them!

What I’m doing this weekend…

This weekend I’m driving to my mom’s house for the holidays.  Georgetown or bust!

What I’m looking forward to next month…

Believe it or not, I’m actually looking forward to making my New Year’s Resolution & sticking to it.  I’m hoping to finally kick my Dr Pepper habit.

What else is new…

Not much else is going on.

Playlist: Fa La La La-lidays

Y’all this week has been so busy, but in the best way!  Tuesday, I played BINGO at my local Whole Foods with my friend Brigitte.  The BINGO is free, but you have to pay for any food or booze.  img_4017

Wednesday was my birthday – the big 33; I met Mama J half-way between Georgetown (where she lives) & The Woodlands (where I live), in a cute little town called Brenham.  That’s where Bluebell Ice Cream is made!  They have a super cute historic downtown square with cafes, shops, & the works.  We had lunch at a cafe called the Funky Art Cafe.  I had a very funky club sandwich – it had grated cheddar cheese, y’all.  Tell me how this makes sense?!?!  On my way back home, I stopped in Chappell Hill at a store called True Blue Home – I love this store so much & one of my favorite designers, Holly Mathis, helped setup this shop.

Once back in The Woodlands, I had dinner with my sweet friends Amy & Maureen – they spoiled me majorly!  We went to a local staple – Republic Grille.  I had an awesome meal of  chicken with goat cheese & sun dried tomatoes with a  lemon cream sauce.   Good company, good food, & good wine!img_4028

As per usual, I dug into the mashed potatoes before taking a picture.  It was so, so good – I couldn’t wait!

Yesterday (Thursday), we had our work holiday party at Texas de Brazil in City Centre.  The Cabernet was awesome!!!  However, I cannot eat this way easily.  This is the type of place where you get your sides form a buffet, & they bring meat to you & cut your piece table side.  The food is fantastic, but it is so rushed.  I can’t eat like that.  I take my time, & graze more often than not.  Never the less, the party was fun – Ugly Sweater is always an easy theme.  The after party, at Yard House, was more casual.  I tried my first Snake Bite – so delicious!  Guinness & Angry Orchard Cider! IMG_4033.JPG

This weekend I’ll be babysitting, house, sitting, & dog sitting – with a couple brunches thrown into the mix. 🙂

Rainy Day Playlist

It has been raining for a few days here in Texas, which I’m not complaining about as my yard needed it.  In fact, I have a special place in my heart for rainy days.  Who doesn’t love a day spent on the couch reading a book while listening to melancholy music?  And, sometimes we just need a good cry to reset our minds.

All by Myself

I came up with a perfectly mellow playlist, in my humble opinion.

  1. Everblue by Mandy Moore – This is such a beautiful, moody song.  Mandy-Pants, that’s what I call her because I feel like we could be friends like that, was clearly going through a rough patch when she wrote this song.  It is my go to when I’m in a broody kind of place.
  2. Between the Lines by Sara Bareilles – So, y’all know I’m a huge fan of Sara.  I think she is an amazing songwriter.  I’d love to go see her in Waitress on Broadway in NYC.  This was one of my first favorites by the lovely Sara.
  3. Heartbeats by Jose Gonzalez – I originally heard this song on an Anthropologie playlist & fell in love with it.
  4. Almost Lover by A Fine Frenzy – This is the first song I ever heard by A Fine Frenzy.  I was hooked by the end of it.  Kind of OBSESSED.
  5. Forever & Always by Parachute – Okay, real talk.  I cannot listen to this song without crying, so be prepared.  It’s a beautifully tragic love song.
  6. Magnolia Mountain by Ryan Adams – My absolute favorite song by Ryan Adams.  If I’m being honest I tend to think the vast majority of his music is melancholy & moody.
  7. I Bruise Easily by Natasha Bedingfield – I can’t really put my finger on it, but this song gives me total Joni Mitchell vibes, & we already know I love her so this song was quickly loved as well.
  8. Lost Stars by Adam Levine – This song is from the movie Begin Again, which Adam Levine was in.  This is really the only song from this movie that I loved, preferably the slow version.
  9. Good Enough by Evanescence – Whew!  If ever you have a down in the dumps, feel sorry for yourself moment, this song will help you wallow in it.
  10. Mayday by Cam – I love Cam; who doesn’t?  The Bobby Bones Show helped bring her to the forefront of radio in the last year or so.  This song, off her debut album, is my favorite.
  11. Not An Addict by K’s Choice – This song brings me back to high school.  I used to be in a club called P.R.I.D.E. & we went around to the younger schools to talk about peer pressure, drug abuse, etc.  We did a skit to this song, & I always picture it when listening to this song.  It’s an oldie, but a goodie.
  12.  Can’t Tell You Why by The Eagles – So, we all know that The Eagles are my GOAT; however, my favorite song changes every so often.  For the last year this has been THE ONE.  It’s mellow, but the harmonies are amazing.  Plus, I sing this song really well during my Car Concerts.
  13. Maybe by Kelly Clarkson – I love Kelly Clarkson!  She’s a fellow Texan & she just gets it, you know?  This is kind of a girl anthem meets a moody break up song.  There’s chord changes from major to minor keys, it’s fast, it’s slow, it’s all over the place & I love it.
  14. Insensitive by Jann Arden – As most great songs are, this is one of the many about love & loss.  Total classic.  There is a great cover of this song by Leann Rimes.
  15. Can’t Stop A Heart by Aubrey Peeples – It took me quite some time to be able to listen to this song without crying.  If you watched the show Nashville then you probably know that Layla wrote this song about Jeff & performed it after his death.  It’s dark & sad & I love it.
  16. Losing My Religion by R.E.M. – Really?  Yes, this is one of the ultimate sad jams.  ‘Nough said.
  17. Dimming Light by Tennis – This is a somewhat new song to me.  I believe Tennis only has an EP out, but I heard this song randomly on Spotify & immediately gravitated to it.
  18. Lemon Parade by Tonic – Tonic is one of my favorite bands from the 90’s & most of their songs are fairly mellow.  This particular one really resonates with me.
  19. Everything That Glitters (Is Not Gold) by Dan Seals – I love, love, love this song.  It’s a typical country love song – tragic.  This song is about a woman leaving her daughter & husband, & the song is written from his point-of-view.  I particularly love it because the little girl’s name is Casey & the horse’s name is Red (my dad’s name).  When I was little I thought this song was about us…it totally isn’t.  Ahh, to be young & naive  again.
  20. Up & Up by Coldplay – I love Coldplay.  I’d say that 90% of all Coldplay songs could be on this playlist, but I especially love this one off their newest album.  It’s actually a very uplifting song, but it’s so mellow thus how it landed here.

What are some of your favorite Rainy Day Tunes?
