A Day in the Life: April 7, 2020

Hi friends!  I thought I’d write a post all about what my day looks like.  So, I’m going to list out everything I did today.

6:25am: alarm goes off -> hit snooze

6:32am: 2nd alarm goes off -> hit snooze

6:34am: snooze alarm goes off -> turn it off

6:43am: 2nd snooze alarm goes off -> turn it off -> turn on lamp, turn up the lights on clock, glance at emails

Get up & put YL CBD muscle rub on shoulders & neck -> turn on my news podcasts -> make bed -> head into the bathroom.

Routine in the Bathroom:
1. Clean face with Thayer’s Witch Hazel
2. Used Peter Thomas Roth AHA/BHA Acne Clearing Gel.
3. Put on my Glow Serum on my face & neck: I make this with Young Living essential oils – Lavender, Frankincense, Copaiba, Blue Tansy, Royal Hawaiian Sandalwood, Manuka, & jojoba oil.
4. Under my eyes I swipe on Tula Glow & Get It.34BA9490-3056-4A1A-82E7-DD4983AB7103_1_201_a

While that soaks in, I do the following:
1. Take my Biotin. I use Nature’s Bounty 10,000 mcg.  I have only been able to find this exact one at Target & it is the highest dosage I have found.  They taste good (strawberry) & dissolve quickly.
2. I roll YL Progessence Plus on my forearms.  I use this to help balance & normalize my hormone levels.
3. Then I roll on YL Endoflex over my thyroid for thyroid & metabolism support.
4. Next I roll YL Juvaflex over my liver to help with liver & lymphatic detoxification.
5. Last of the morning oils, I roll YL Joy over my heart because it is uplifting & calming.  Joy also promotes general attitude & emotional well-being; we can all use that right now.  Am I right?

Then I gather all my Juice Plus vitamins (4 berry, 4 veggie, & 4 fruit) & put those aside.  I prefer the gummy vitamins, they taste so good, & eat them while I’m getting ready. 217FC6CC-9DE4-4766-BA49-549224FD5E38_4_5005_c

Okay, so by 7:00am I was in the kitchen making my coffee.  I like this coffee from Amazon, & use any caramel flavored creamer.  Right now I’m using a coconut milk caramel flavored creamer.  While the coffee was brewing, I grabbed a Chobani peach yogurt & filled a small bowl (think salad dressing size in a lunch box) with mini dark chocolate chips & roasted pistachios.  I put the yogurt & toppings in my office & turn on a lamp.  I like for my yogurt to sit out for a little bit to take the cold edge off.  With my coffee in hand, I head back into the bathroom to get ready.

So first up, I put on “weekend” makeup, which consists of concealer, blush, mascara.  I’ve taken all my vitamins by the time I’m done with makeup.

7:30am: still sipping coffee, I start on my hair.  My hair is growing out from a bob & is at a real weird length, so I do have to fix it so that it makes some semblance of order.

7:45am: hair done, coffee done, brush teeth.

7:50am: got dressed – yes, I wear jeans to work from home.  I am much more productive if I am at least dressed “Friday casual” style.

8:00am: got to my desk to start my work day.
Office Diffuser blend today is Peppermint (stimulating), Orange (uplifting), Valor (balancing energies), & Lime (immune support).  It smells so good!

Adjusted thermostat every 10 minutes, trying to get warm.

8:45am: threw a load of laundry in the washer & off to my boss’s house to pickup some equipment to deliver to a client.

9:00am: met my boss & also picked up a face mask my friend Jessica left for me.

9:15am: drove through Starbucks – I know this is so bad, but it was drive through.

9:45 – 10:15am: met client – I’m not going to lie, it felt great to drive my car.  Don’t worry, we maintained social distance.

While I was waiting, I finalized my life insurance policy with my broker over the phone.  Now is a great time to make sure all your paperwork is in order in case something were to happen to you.

10:45am: stopped at Walgreens, totally forgot to get what I went in there for.  Instead, it looked like I gave a 10yo $40 to pick out snacks for a road trip.

11:00am: picked up lunch from Herb & Beet (pickup only).  I was really worried about this small business closing permanently, so I was really excited to see that they were doing pickups.

11:15am: unloaded my Walgreens “groceries,” switched over the laundry to the dryer, & washed the dishes from last night.

11:30am: back at my desk, working with my Texas Brisket salad and mac & cheese. 664E90DA-ECDE-40AF-8405-C689597FB1A0_1_201_a

Made a mess of my shirt, & promptly changed into yoga pants & a sweatshirt.  Back to work.  Ugh, there is a fly in my house.

3:00pm: took a 10 minute break to do an arm workout with Obé Fitness.  My arms are going to fall off after that one.

4:09pm: I hear the ducks have returned to my yard to hold me hostage once again.

5:00pm: virtual HH with Amy & Maureen!  Y’all, I have perfected my Coconut Mojito recipe & will share it on my Friday Five!

6:00pm: made dinner – Trader Joe’s Carnitas with Salsa Verde burrito & guacamole with Elote chips.

7:00pm: watched Watch What Happens Live & Hometown that I fell asleep during on Monday.

8:00pm: watched Vanderpump Rules
Living Room Diffuser Blend: Anthropologie Volcano candle blend – YL Orange, Grapefruit, Lime, Idaho Blue Spruce, & Geranium.

9:00pm: watched Shahs of Sunset from last Friday.

10:00pm: Bedtime Routine:
1. Turn on diffuser: blend is Thieves & Lemon for immune support.
2. Used Bliss Makeup Melt to remove mascara.
3. Wash face with YL Orange Blossom face wash.
4. Used Thayer’s Witch Hazel for toner.
5. Used Dr. Dennis Gross Alpha Beta Daily Peel (I’d like to do this every other day, but only remember about once a week).
6. Used prescription acne gel.
7. NeuLASH lash enhancing serum. 5DA4AED0-2560-4D17-8019-701DF39E1231

10:15pm: In Bed Routine:
1. Spray Thieves on the bottom of my feet.
2. Roll YL Tranquil from shoulder, across my clavicle, to the other shoulder (sleep support).
3. Roll YL Soothe CBD oil on the back of my neck (for chronic neck & shoulder pain).
4. Put on chapstick.
5. Put on Olive & June cuticle oil.
6. Read Only You until 11:00pm.  Lights out.

One thing I left off this list is every time I washed my hands.  If I touched something, then I washed my hands.

Was this interesting?

I’ll be back Friday for my Friday Five & the RHONY Recap.

Friday Five: A Daisy or Two

E69E6C8C-FE02-48C9-9B30-10EAA1E1DDBF_4_5005_cHey y’all!  Hope you have survived another week of Social Distancing.  I’ve been trying recall if I’m on week 2 or week 3 of quarantine.  I think the first week was unofficial…

Anyway, I have five fun things, saving my sanity, to share with you for the week!

One: Quarantunes

Y’all, my playlist for the quarantine is so good!  If you are wanting 4+ hours of music to fill the silence, take a listen here.  I have a good mix of upbeat, mellow, new-ish, oldies.

Two: Fresh Flowers

So, the least practical thing I bought for my quarantine was fresh flowers.IMG_1543Even I am shaking my head at this.  I’m an Enneagram 1 (wing 9), but in times of stress E1’s go to Enneagram 4.  There is a lot of staring out the window, which normally would be very unlike me.

I do take a very quick daily sanity walk to my mailbox everyday, but if you follow me on IG then you know I have two really ugly ducks that have taken up residence in my front yard.  I’m terrified of birds (long story), and I feel like they are holding me hostage.IMG_1542Anyway, the fresh flowers are allowing me to be with nature, but not in nature.  Just how I like it.

Three: Obé Fitness

I’ve finally gotten so stir crazy that I’ve started using Obé Fitness, an at home workout app.  There is a free 7 day trial, & you can use code Ashley30 for 30% off your first month.  This is Ashley Spivey’s discount code for her followers, but I’m one of them so I’m sharing the love!

I started with a 10 minute arm workout, which I only did half of.  Y’all, I did not pick a beginner sesh.  As soon as the instructor went to planks I tapped out.  I’m just not at a place in my life where I’m ready to plank for 3.5 minutes…or at all.  Ever.

I do really like that you can select workouts from 10 minutes to an hour, you can target certain areas, and they have dance & yoga.  Think I’ll try dance cardio next, sounds fun!

Four: Staying above the Wellness Line

In the midst of all the Coronavirus stuff going on, I’m doing some extra things to stay above the wellness line.  To be fair, if anyone is already sick then medicine is obviously the way to go to get back to health.

Here are some things I’m doing:

  1. Diffusing Thieves essential oil in every room in my house while I’m in that room.  Thieves is excellent for your immune system.  Side bonus – Thieves + Lemon helps fight my allergies as the pollen is thick around here.D581DC2D-276F-4E17-BA38-ADD1DC3CCCD4
  2. Drinking at least 2 ounces of NingXia Red for added antioxidants.BFE51B72-2D55-4560-8578-34F3A49C46DB
  3. Vitamin C – all day, every day.
  4. CBD muscle rub; I have chronic neck and shoulder issues & frequent the chiropractor.  Well, I can’t do that right now, so I use CBD muscle rub to help release my neck.
  5. If things get especially stressful, I use my CBD calm &/or soothe roller.
  6. All. The. Face. Masks.  This is more of staying above the mental wellness line.

Full disclosure, items 1 – 5 are all from Young Living Essential Oils.

Five: Jessica Yellin

If you are not following @JessicaYellin on Instagram you should be.  Jessica brings her followers up-to-date, neutral information.  I often get info from her 2 – 3 days before it makes it to mainstream media.  Her signature format is #newsnotnoise.

Hope you all are well.

There’s Thieves Among Us…

Hi Friends!  Can you finish the lyric in the title of this blog?  Bonus points if you can!

Okay, so I wanted to do a quick post about Young Living essential oils & illnesses.  Obviously, oils do not replace all medicine, but I do think they help a multitude of things that medicine cannot.

Any hoo, same as 2017, I woke up the day after Christmas in 2018 feeling under the weather.  I attribute this to traveling for the holidays, being around friends & family that I don’t see often, & being exposed to different germs elements.  I also think that things slow down at work around this time of year, & my body just breaks down; maybe it’s exhaustion, maybe it’s catching up to me, who really knows.  And, y’all, I made the biggest mistake ever…I forgot my diffuser at home when I went to Mama J’s house.  Thank God for the Thieves spray that I leave in my toiletry kit.

So, Wednesday, December 26th I woke up with a tickle in my throat & a side of stuffy nose.  I still had to go into the office, & since I didn’t have a fever, I grabbed my oils & headed in.  Raven & Thieves were my go to daytime diffuser blend.  illness blend

Let me tell you about these oils.  Thieves has been around since the 15th century, & grave robbers used to douse themselves in this oil so they wouldn’t catch the diseases of the deceased that they were robbing.  Obviously good for immunity, right?  Thieves is a blend of clove, lemon, cinnamon bark, eucalyptus, & rosemary oils.  thievesbekillingit3

Raven is a blend of ravinstara, lemon, wintergreen, peppermint, & eucalyptus.  Raven is a particularly great oil for coughs, chest congestion, nasal congestion, sore throat, allergies, & asthma.

I truly feel, that because I have religiously been using Thieves each night before bed & each morning before leaving the house for the last year, the tickle in my throat never progressed beyond that.  If this had been 2017, I would have been deep in the throws of the worst flu I’ve ever had.

I’m not sure if you’re aware, but Texas (specifically Austin – where I was) is notorious for super-awful allergies.  I didn’t realize this until a few years ago, but if allergies go untreated they can progress into colds, bronchitis, pneumonia, the flu, etc.

Luckily for me, and because of Young Living, I haven’t been truly sick since 2017!  Can you imagine not being sick or getting allergies?

For good measure, at night I’ve been diffusing my favorite allergy blend: lavender, lemon, eucalyptus, & peppermint. allergy blend

Questions

What I’m eating this week…

I’m literally eating my breakfast: peach non-fat Greek yogurt, roasted pistachios, & mini dark chocolate chips. This is hands down my favorite breakfast on a weekday.  I know a lot of people aren’t into yogurt, but it helps keep my gut balanced.  I can tell a difference within 3 days if I don’t eat yogurt.

I’m also drinking a NingXia Red, by far one of my very favorite Young Living products.  NingXia

What I’m reminiscing about…

All these Hallmark movies are making me wish for a vacation, a prince, or Christmas.

What I’m loving…

I just had microdermabrasion for the first time a couple weeks ago.  I wish I could do it every week!  I loved it.  My facialist also gives the best facial massages.  Microderm

What I’ve been up to…

This summer has been crazy busy!  I need a summer to relax from my summer.

June 10: car wreck – I wasn’t hurt, but my car sure was
June 15 – 24: dog/house sat
June 28 – July 8: overnight babysat for a 2yo & 4 yo, they were so good but I don’t know how single parents do it!  I’m in awe of you.
July 10 -12: dog/house sat
July 17: FINALLY got my car back from being fixed
July 25 – 28: dog/house sit
August 2: dog/house sit
August 3 – 12: vacation!

Needless to say, there hasn’t been a lot of nights sleeping in my own bed.

What I’m dreading…

I’m dreading the school traffic coming back in a few weeks.  It easily adds 20 minutes to my commute in the morning.  😦

What I’m working on…

I’ve recently been getting into essential oils, I think I mentioned that in May.  With that said, I follow the hashtags, #YoungLiving & #essentialoils, on Instagram & I get TONS of oil ideas for diffuser blends, perfume blends, household cleaners, body butters, stain removers, body wash…you name it.  So, I’m creating a recipe book so I can just keep them all in one place instead of taking a screenshot with my phone & having to scroll through 87,000 pictures to get to a recipe.

I’m also slowly switching over from toxic household items to non-toxic.  I’ve already gotten rid of all my candles, they are SOOOOOO bad for you…full of carcinogens. I’ve switched to Young Living’s Thieves laundry detergent – LOVE!  I’ll also never buy bug spray, roach killer, or Goo-Gone again…there’s an oil for that!

What I’m excited about…

I’m so excited about going to visit my friend Maureen in Park City, Utah!  I can’t wait to be in 70-80 degree weather!  I’m flying up, & then we are driving back together.  Y’all, I splurged & upgraded myself to first class!  Who am I?

Do you think it will be like this?First Class

What I’m watching/reading…

I’ve obviously been watching Hallmark’s Christmas in July movies, duh.

Is anyone watching The Bachelorette?  I am not loving it, so much so that I’m not even blogging this season.  This is a case where we know more than the Lead at this point.  I hate that I know that ABC allowed a convicted sexual predator on Becca’s season & a guy, who is the favorite, that is clearly a racist, homophobic, misogynistic, gross guy.  It’s really bumming me out.  I feel like they are making a fool of Becca once again.  They already did her dirty in Arie’s season by filming the worst breakup of all time.  Okay – off my soap box.

I’ve been reading here & there, not as much as I normally do.  I’ve been studying for my Project Management certification, so the last thing I want to do is pick up another book.  But I did read a couple of quick, easy, & cheesy romance novels recently.

The Love by Numbers series from Sarah McLean was fantastic!  I also really enjoyed Finding Mr. Wrong by AM Madden & Joanne Schwehm – it was very Bachelor-esqe.

What I’m listening to…

I’ve moved on from Kacey Musgraves & am now obsessed with Lucie Silvas.

Download these 3 songs:
Place to Hide
Villain
Find A Way
You can thank me later.

What I’m wearing…

I have been living in my BP & Caslon tees from Nordstrom.

What I’m doing this weekend…

This weekend I’m going to the Astros game!  Astros

What I’m looking forward to next month…

Did I mention I was going on vacation???

What else is new…

Work has been crazy busy, I’m spear heading a new initiative that is supposed to officially kick-off tomorrow.

Bonus: What is my favorite thing I’ve done this summer…

My favorite thing about this summer has been the rain.  Yes, it is still hot in Houston, but it has really helped keep things to a manageable heat.  Knock on wood.  I’m sure my answer will be different in a couple weeks.

Until next time.

What’s Up Wednesday: May Edition

Hello friends, it’s that time of the month again!  No, Beatrice is not visiting (hahaha), it’s What’s Up Wednesday!  WUW

I’ll be answering these questions & linking up with Mix & Match Mama.  Questions

So, without further ado…

What I’m eating this week…

I don’t actually know what I’m eating this week (ha!), I’ve been out of town for a few days & desperately need to go to the grocery store.  I’ve been really craving salads, particularly salads that have a sweet & spicy vibe.

I’ve also really been into guacamole.  You can check out my love for guac here.

What I’m reminiscing about…

Y’all, it’s only May & I’m already missing our cooler weather.  I don’t know about where you live, but in the Houston area we skipped right past Spring & went straight into triple digits.  UGH!  I’m not going outside again until I can wear a sweater!

This was basically me all of Memorial Day Weekend…literally.  Yes, I’m using that word correctly; I really stood on ice at least 3 times this past weekend. Me

What I’m loving…

I just became a member of Young Living Essential Oils, thanks to my friend Keely.  No, I’m not going to try & sell you any…  EO's

I’m still a little skeptical about all the benefits, but after being at my mom’s house for 5 days & waking up all night long, etc. I truly believe that the EO’s I diffuse at night, in my own house, really help me sleep like the dead.  I also made a bug spray with essential oils for the wedding & it worked great!  Not only did the bugs leave me alone, but it smelled great & softened my skin.  Win, win, win!

What I’ve been up to…

May has been a crazy month…and I can’t even remember why.  I’m getting old…my memory is going.  I took a class, more about that later, & my mom got married on the 27th after being a widow for 10 the past ten years.

Oh, I also had some car trouble that occupied a good 10 days of my life…I thought it was a bad omen or something.  Bad things happen in three’s, right?

What I’m dreading…

Did I mention how hot it is already?

What I’m working on…

I’m kind of in an organization mode right now, so that seems to be my jam.

What I’m excited about…

I have a trip planned for August, which I know is kinda far away, but I’m still so excited to got to Deer Valley, UT with my friend Maureen!  Who wouldn’t want to spend a week here? Utah

What I’m watching/reading…

After the most dramatic deliberation ever (see what I did there?), I decided to watch this season of The Bachelorette.  I was really conflicted after the way last season ended.  You can read my recap here, where I explain my hesitation in detail.

I’m currently reading my study materials…all the materials.  So many words and pages and diagrams and formulas.

What I’m listening to…

I’m still OBSESSED with the Kacey Musgraves album, Golden Hour.  It is so amazing, I just can’t say enough good things about it.  I feel like each week I have a new favorite song.  Right now, my favorite is “Happy & Sad.”

What I’m wearing…

I bought this gorgeous dress from ModCloth for Mama J’s wedding over the holiday weekend.  DressI LOVED it; I thought it was casual enough for an outdoor (super hot) wedding, but also work appropriate.  It’s now on sale…just my luck!  It comes in white too.

What I’m doing this weekend…

This weekend I am getting a facial, I’m trying to Benjamin Button my face.  I’m also going to a baby shower & will be studying for a big exam any spare moment I have.

What I’m looking forward to next month…

On June 8th, I have a really important, big, terrifying exam.  It is a 4 hours, 200 questions, pass/fail exam, so any good vibes or prayers you could send my way would be greatly appreciated.  I don’t want to say too much about it yet, because I don’t want to jinx it & I’m really nervous about it.  I haven’t studied in 12 years since I was in college.  Studying

What else is new…

Not much else is new, which I’m thankful for.

Bonus Question: What’s my favorite summer salad…

I’m loving any salad with watermelon!  I love Marcela Valladolid’s Watermelon Feta Serrano salad.  How could you not love this salad art?!? Salad Art

Until next month…
